Small Black Ants ExterminatorAnt infestations are one of the most commonly reported pest problems. The small or little black ant is a species that is native to North America. Their nests may have more than one queen and a colony is usually moderately sized with only a few thousand workers. Ants can find numerous entrances into your home or building. Once inside, the growing ant colony can quickly become a problem because ants mature from juveniles to adults within a very short period of time.
These tiny scavengers will enter your home or business looking for moisture and an accessible food source. These scavengers will consume anything from bird droppings, sugar, cheese, grease, vegetables, and dead insects. Rotting or damp wood that is moldy can attract ants too. The worker ants may forage in households, but they nest in soil mounds.
During mid-summer the queens and males perform their mating in midair. The males then die shortly after and the queen then constructs a new nest, sheds its wings, and lays her eggs. The development from egg to adult takes about a month.
Other small black ants include:
Pavement Ants: are about one-eighth inch long. They generally make their nests in pavement cracks and are also capable of infesting a building.
Pharoah Ants: are about one-sixteenth inch long. These ants are commonly found in hospitals and nursing homes, where they are capable of transmitting Staphylecoccus and Psuedomonas infections.
Sugar Ants: also invade homes, restaurants, apartment buildings and similar dwellings.
These small black ants are a real nuisance to homeowners and will persist if not treated properly. It is best to leave this pest to the professionals. They are known to have small numerous nests and if treatment is not done correctly the problem will get worse.
