Tick Control
Deer tick, brown dog tick and American dog tick.
Ticks are slow-crawling, wingless vermin that feed solely on human and animal blood. Of greatest concern in our geography are the deer tick, brown dog tick, and American dog ticks. They are usually found just a few inches or feet off the ground on vegetation.
Appearance:
Ticks vary in color by species. Adult ticks are 1/8- to 5/8-inch long if engorged with blood, or nymphal (immature) ticks are less than 1/16-inch. Common ticks include the American dog tick, deer tick, and brown dog tick.
Are they dangerous?
Yes, the black legged or deer tick is known to vector Lyme disease. The American dog tick is known to vector Rocky Mountain spotted fever and can cause paralysis. Ticks can attach near your pets spinal cord causing Tick Paralysis. This causes muscle weakness, loss of coordination, and in some cases respiratory failure from paralyzed chest muscles. Dogs pick up ticks easier than people do and can also get Lyme disease! Ticks can be picked up outside from areas where infested pets have been and are often brought indoors. Ticks can go a very long time without a blood meal and can survive in a home for several months without feeding. Cleaning and vacuuming have an important role for effective tick control, but a professional treatment may be required for control. Contact the professionals at PestCo, LLC to control your deer tick, brown dog tick, or American dog tick problem.
How do you get rid of ticks? Non-chemical tick control procedures should be implemented along with chemical control methods. Keeping grass and weeds cut short in tick infested areas increases tick desiccation during hot weather, discourages alternative hosts and lessens the amount of plant material which may need a pesticide application to kill ticks. Tick Control requires a specialized pest control treatment. Required products and application for ticks differ from those used to treat general pests like: spiders, crickets, ants and bees. Ticks can be difficult to control and that's why our service includes the necessary products and follow-up visits.
